Safety and responsibility

SAFE HANDLING OF HAZARDOUS SUBSTANCES DURING PRODUCTION AND TRANSPORT

All our delivery vehicles are equipped for the transport of hazardous substances, and our drivers and shipping personnel are trained accordingly. When selecting raw materials, we pay particular attention to environmental compatibility with regard to transport, use, and wastewater pollution. When using hazardous substances in our products, we continuously strive to reduce the hazard potential by using lower-classified raw materials in accordance with legal requirements.

Storage of water-polluting substances

Appropriate protective and safety measures have been implemented for the handling and storage of hazardous substances. Hazardous raw materials, semi-finished products, and finished goods are stored in accordance with regulations, either in double-walled tanks or in pallet racks with appropriate containment devices. The unloading and loading areas are also equipped with appropriate protective measures to prevent soil contamination. The entire WIGOL® system is designed as an additional containment basin and can be used as an extinguishing water retention basin in the event of a fire.

Energy management

The company's main energy consumer is its own heating system, which is used to heat the production and administrative areas and to generate hot water. Electrical energy is required for the necessary pumps, agitators, lighting, and the company's own wastewater treatment plant. This is generated by a PV system that covers more than 50% of annual consumption. The remaining electricity is purchased as 100% certified green electricity. The vehicle fleet is primarily powered by diesel fuel. The entire WIGOL® site is designed as an additional catch basin and can be used as a firewater retention basin in the event of a fire.

Waste management

At WIGOL®, waste is separated and disposed of according to its recyclability. In addition to production waste, we also recycle canisters returned by customers. Every customer has the option of returning used canisters to our vehicles free of charge. Depending on their size, all used containers are rinsed and refilled or shredded and recycled.

Wastewater management

For WIGOL®, wastewater load is the decisive factor in the entire waste management process. The entire water requirement is met from the city of Worms' drinking water network. All wastewater passes through a two-stage treatment plant, with a partial stream being used as process water for low-value rinsing processes after the first treatment stage. In the second treatment stage, wastewater no longer suitable for reuse is discharged into the municipal sewer system via an activated carbon filter.
